Ms. Erica Mulkey-Koltzan

Erica Mulkey-Koltzan is a lifelong resident in the Hawthorne community. Graduating from Hawthorne High School in 2002, she has deep roots in the borough, raising her three sons—Zachary, Marcus, and  Luke, who also navigate the halls of Hawthorne Public School. As a special education teacher in the Fair Lawn school district, Erica not only shapes young minds but also serves as the supervisor of the before and after care program and lead teacher. Her commitment extends beyond the classroom; she actively participates in multiple Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) and special education parent advisory groups, advocating for families and fostering collaboration. As a union association representative, Erica champions the voices of educators. Erica’s journey is a testament to dedication and passion for education. Named the Governor's Teacher of the Year in 2024-2025, her influence extends beyond the classroom. After graduating magna cum laude from William Paterson in 2017, she pursued her master's in applied behavioral analysis at Purdue University. Erica has been a constant presence in the district, first as a student and now as a committed educator and advocate. Her leadership has spurred new initiatives that enhance the learning experience, reflecting her deep investment in students, staff, and the broader community. In 2023, her commitment was further recognized when she was elected to the school board, allowing her to amplify her voice and impact. Erica embodies the spirit of a BEAR in the community, inspiring those around her to strive for excellence.
